2. BEST OF THE FESTS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
San Gennaro
16-26 September 2004 (Every year)
New York City, New York, USA
The Italian community's oldest, largest and liveliest fiesta, San
Gennaro is a playground for tourists and a nostalgia trip down
fairy-lit, Italian-flagged memory lane for even the most jaded New
Yorker. Heaped with religious kitsch and Euro-tackiness, the event
offers 11 days of sensory overload in Lower Manhattan's Little Italy.
It attracts more than three million people to Mulberry St for food,
games, rides, a parade and a religious procession.
Gennaro is strictly about consumption. Most famous for its sausage,
onion and pepper sandwiches, the fiesta also boasts Zepole (sugary
fried dough balls) and a range of Italian pastries. There is gelati
galore, cannolis and Italian ices ready to be washed down with
multicoloured fruity flutes of cheap booze.
Oktoberfest
18 September-3 October 2004 (Every year)
Munich, Germany
Oktoberfest is one of the world's largest parties and draws visitors
from around the globe. Each year, some six million visitors fill the
Munich breweries' festival tents, downing roughly six million litres
of beer and devouring 300,000 pork sausages, 600,000 roast chickens
and 80 oxen.
Oktoberfest offers much more than a gigantic beer bust. It begins on
Saturday with a parade of the tent concessionaires, riding in brewery
wagons pulled by magnificent draught horses. That evening, Folklore
International presents costumed musical groups from many regions and
lands, while on Sunday morning more folk groups parade through the
streets of the city in traditional costume, complete with brass bands.
An agricultural show also takes place in conjunction with the
festival. A full-blown midway with carousels, ferris wheels and roller
coasters provides fun for kids as well as their parents, and indeed
the beauty of Munich beer-garden culture is that families are as
welcome (and as common) as single adults. Tuesdays are family days,
with reduced admission prices.
Scarborough Jazz Festival
17-19 September 2004
Scarborough, UK
Apart from the immediate attractions of the town and natural
surroundings visitors can expect at the Spa a variety of fringe events
(including the EASY Band playing in the Sun Court).  This year there
will be a greater range of food and drink, including real ale, to suit
all tastes and pockets.
An unusual highlight will be 'Songs for Unsung Heroes' presented by
playwright Alan Plater with music by Alan Barnes' All Stars and vocals
from Liz Fletcher.  The outstanding reeds player Alan Barnes will once
again, as compere, entertain the audience with his humour and jazz
insights - a fun festival for all!
3. SPOTLIGHT ON
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~~ Beating SPAM! ~~

What is SPAM?

SPAM in unsolicited "junk" email sent to large numbers of people to
promote products or services. The most common SPAM emails are chain
letters, work-at-home schemes, weight loss claims, credit repair
offers, advance fee loan scams and adult entertainment.

What can you do to minimize the amount of SPAM you receive?

ISIConnect's Premium email service comes with a SPAM filter that
filters those messages considered as SPAM to your Junk mail folder.
You can set your SPAM filter to a 'high', 'medium' or 'low' setting. A
high setting means the filter will be more aggressive and some desired
messages may end up in your Junk mail folder. A low setting means the
filter will be less aggressive and you may still receive SPAM.

Buy ISIConnect's Premium email for US$30 per year and you also receive
100MB Inbox storage and the ability to send and receive 5MB
attachments.

Help! I am still receiving SPAM

Here are some additional tips you should follow to reduce the amount
of SPAM you receive.

- Don't publish your email address on a webpage, in a chat forum, on
an online service's membership directory or in a news article. If you
do, you will find your email address will end up on a spammers list.
How? Typically, an email spammer buys a list of email addresses from
a list broker, who compiles it by using software, called web spiders,
to crawl the Web searching for email addresses.
- Use two email addresses - one for personal messages and one for
newsgroups and chat rooms. If you start receiving too much SPAM in
your public email address, simply change it. It doesn't affect your
personal email address so family and friends will still be able to
email you.

- Check the privacy policy when you submit your address to a website.
See if it allows the company to sell your address. You may want to
opt out of this provision, if possible, or not submit your address at
all to websites that won't protect it. ISIConnect never on sells your
email address.

- Do not click on the "unsubscribe" or "remove me" link in a SPAM
email. Never respond to the instructions to reply with the word
"remove". These are all tricks to get you to react to the email. It
alerts the sender that a human is at your address and validates to the
spammers that the email address is a real one. Your address is likely
to be placed on more lists and you receive more SPAM!

- Never respond to SPAM. For a spammer, one "hit" among thousands of
mailings is enough to justify the practice. Instead, if you want a
product that is advertised in SPAM, go to a Web site that also carries
the product, inquire there, and tell them you do not approve of spam
methods and will not patronize a company that uses spammers.

~~ 'All things coca cola' ~~

Coca-cola Facts...

- Coca-Cola was so named back in 1885 for its two medicinal
ingredients: extract of coca leaves and kola nuts.

- In 1886, sales of "Coca-Cola" averaged only 9 drinks per day. Today,
7,000 coca-cola products are consumed each second.

- A single share of Coca-Cola stock, purchased in 1919, when the
company went public, would have been worth $92,500 in 1997.

Just a few of the great Coca-Cola Slogans through the Years...

1893 - The ideal brain tonic
1904 - Coca-Cola satisfies
1938 - Any time is the right time to pause and refresh
1941 - Completely refreshing
1945 - Coke means Coca-Cola
1950 - Time out for Coke
1955 - Taste Treat
1957 - Have Fun! Have a Coke
1960 - Cool off with Coke
1964 - You'll go better refreshed
1966 - Christmas without Coca-Cola --Bah, humbug!
1970 - Coke adds life to everything nice
1979 - Have a Coke and a smile
1980 - Coke is it
1989 - Can't Beat the Feeling.
1990 - Can't Beat the Real Thing.
1993 - Always Coca-Cola.
2001 - Life tastes good.

Coca-cola is powerful stuff...

1. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in
two days.
2. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and
let the 'real thing' sit for on hour, then flush clean. The critic
acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.
3. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca
-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
4. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of
greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The
coke will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from
your windshield.
